  1. Holly

Finally got around to trying the Vanilla Pear Vodka Cocktail I mentioned in this episode and I have a few thought to share!

    1. As I started to prepare the Spiced Vanilla Pear Syrup, I noticed that the recipe negated to contain any….vanilla. I quickly scanned the whole recipe and lo, no vanilla anywhere to be found. SMH. Luckily, an easy fix. I had a couple of vanilla beans, so I split them slightly with a sharp knife and threw them into the spiced pear syrup pot. I suppose you could also add a teaspoon or so of vanilla extract if you don’t have any vanilla beans on hand. Or (and I may try this even though I added some vanilla to the syrup) your could use vanilla vodka in the recipe instead of regular. I think that would be amazing.
    2. The recipe doesn’t do the best job of explaining how to prepare an individual cocktail- it looks like the list of ingredients at the top of the recipe would be good to make a batch of cocktails, but for one, you kind of have to wing it. I went ahead and mixed the pear nectar and vodka together for a batch (ended up being about 2 to 1 nectar to vodka, 12 oz nectar/6 oz vodka) then pouring 4 oz of that mixture over a low ball glass full of ice. Then added 1/2 oz of the spiced syrup and gave it a stir. Garnished with a pear slice.

Conclusion- Needed a little tweaking, but absolutely DELICIOUS! The spiced pear vanilla syrup would be so good in many different cocktails and would make a great gift! Keep refrigerated and use with in a week or so, I would say.
